The great big shared delusion we call money. When faced with the decision of whether or not I should go back to school a few years ago I decided no. I had just gotten myself out of debt, and the thought of taking on more was just too much. I work in the food and bev industry in a touristy beach town. I make decent money. I mean maybe Bill Gates would disagree, but it's decent to me. My expenses are low cheap rent, and I ride a bike everywhere. There are people I know who have graduated from college and are working in their chosen lucrative fields but they don't have the kind of savings I do. I'm cheap man. I can squeeze a penny so hard it turns to a diamond in my hand. I'm happy as hell too. There's a lot of freedom in being free from debt or financial worry. It is weird isn’t it? I just realized that I might work all my lifetime if I won't change my spending habits. Money only has value insofar as the people using it have confidence that it can be exchanged for something. So, let's say your country gets taken over by a neighbor, or some other large scale political change happens. Poof! Hope you weren't holding on to a lot of paper. #3 is interesting…

I can't wait until that happens for me and my family - I want it to occur in the next 6 years but I think that might be pretty ambitious for us (I'm only 26). I guess we'll see. How have you done it? Do you have any tips for those who want to retire early? Thanks for stopping by, Steward Hi WDW,

I can identify because I did retire early, and I did it exactly the way you describe. I curtailed my consumption, reduced my wants and needs, and learned just how little I really required to exist happily. Then I stepped out of the rat race and never looked back. Like you, I guess I suck for the economy, but I sleep really well at night. Regards, That’s a really great post.
