Riding the Bus

{ January 10th, 2008 }

Riding the bus yesterday and this morning was a stellar success! I only spent $2.50 each way, got some good exercise, and was reminded of all the great times I had as a college student working summer internships with the City of San Diego. I mostly just used to read books and write all the dreams that I had the night before in a dream journal, but the possibilities are really endless. I made a list in the bus, and felt excited about all the cool things I could do. I could:

  1. Read books … from the library … for free!
  2. Study foreign and dead languages - Arabic and Koine Greek here I come!
  3. Spend quality time thinking and talking to my best Friend
  4. Write stuff
  5. Generally be reflective

All these things I could do without riding the bus, but it really seems like each of them would be easier to do if I was forced to do them because I had to ride the bus. On my way to work this morning I ran the numbers in my head, if I take the bus for the rest of the month it will cost me $77.50 to ride for the rest of the month. A bus pass would only cost me $64. I think I will stick with paying out of pocket for this month until we learn what is going to happen with my wife’s job and her car. It seems like a safer bet given that bus passes are non-refundable and my expenses could be lower depending on what happens with things.

Credit Card Woes and Weird

1000 Miles Bike Commuting Celebration

This morning on my way to work I pedaled my 1000th mile bike commuting.  According to my official numbers (which are probably a few miles below actual) I have ridden 1005.2 miles since I started my journey toward extreme fuel efficiency.  Not all those miles have been easy for me, and riding these miles has ...
