I have actually thought about doing a century. A guy I know who is in his 40s just did one in San Diego. I remember thinking, "If a 40+ year old guy can do it, why can't I?" I also just bought some running shoes with a two year old gift card so that I can get some different muscles in the mix. I went for a mile run to the store and back (to buy some PB Blast to unstick my bike seat so that I could raise it a bit) and the next day my legs were super sore. I got to get my legs (and upper body for that matter) into at least a little better shape before the annual Thanksgiving football game or else I am going to be sore for a very long time afterward. Thanks Jacob.

You may want to try some centuries - it's more of a participation event than a competition. If you commute 100+ miles a week you have the foundation to do it. If you can also do 50+ miles with only a couple of breaks, 100 miles should not be too difficult. Jut start with a non-hilly century and you should be alright. Congrats.
