I am dreading the time change though and having to ride in the dark. I think what may be helping my rear stay away from the point of too much pain is that I only ride the 12 miles home about twice a week. @ Writer Dad – Hopefully I stick with it for more than 3 weeks. My resolution lasted three weeks. Then I thought I needed to give my tired bum a reprieve. I never went back; started running instead. After all, if it's more comfortable, you may be more likely to ride your bike to run small errands instead of driving your car - which saves you money in the long run. BTW, men and women usually have different saddle needs because of our bone structure differences down there. I second the advice to go to http://www.bikeforums.net/ for some commuting tips. Then again, I'm one of the (unpaid volunteer) administrators there. :) A saddle that is comfortable for your rear end is always a wise purchase. I have been really lax in seeking out quality information about that aspect of bike commuting. I read about road safety but not about ride comfort - what was I thinking? They have a lot of good info for new commuters. And invest in some real bike shorts, your taint will thank you! You might want to check out the commuter forums at http://www.bikeforums.net.
